Love your neighbor

"Love your Neighbor" Compassions Director: Andrew Upton

Our Ministry, "Love your neighbor", is based off of Matthew 19:19.

Where Jesus says, "Honor your father and mother, and Love your neighbor as yourself."

Every Saturday, the rubber meets the road in hopes to make a difference in our neighborhood.

With "Love your neighbor", our goal is to help those who need help cleaning gutters, overgrown yards, covering A/C units, and basic things that may be outside of one's wheelhouse, but are still important.

You DO NOT need to be a part of First Assembly to give or receive help. No strings attached.

Hello, My name is Andrew.

I was born in Joplin, Mo as the oldest of 4 brothers.

I spent part of my childhood in southern California, although school did not come easily, I found I was gifted with creativity in many forms.

After School, I entered the US Navy and served on the US Carrier, "The Harry S. Trueman", as a Jet mechanic.

A few years later, I fell asleep at the wheel and wrecked my vehicle, which threw me out of the top and I broke my neck and severely injured my back. Doctors wired my neck together and gave me no hope to walk again.

For the first time ever, I cried out to God for help: promised that I would serve Him forever; and the God of the universe, he heard me and answered my cry.

To the astonishment of many doctors, I began to have feelings in my legs. I continued to believe God and set out trusting Him every day on a long hard recovery.

I was given a new beginning, a new purpose bigger than myself.

A few years later, I set out eastward searching for a fresh start. That is where I met my wife, Stacey, and within a few months, we were married. We have been married since 1993.

In 2008, The Lord impressed on both Stacey and I to take a big step of faith and move to the Joplin area to "Be the Light" to my family. We obeyed and have never looked back.

Through the years, I have served the Lord and local church in many capacities, but, I have a special place in my heart for US Missions.

My desire is to serve Jesus with everything that I am.

I desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the community and be a part of the power of Pentecost  perpetuating through the body of Christ as we keep Jesus as the center of all we say and do.

Always remembering, "For with God nothing is impossible."

Luke 1:37
